Varsity Swimming
Up until my senior year, I was a varsity swimmer and co-captain of the swim team. Most of my medals and ribbons are in either the 100-Butterfly or the Individual Medley.
One of the cool things about being in a small school is that you get to swim every stroke.

Modeling and Creating Dioramas
[I mentioned this under the tab "Music & Art," but I'm repeating it here because it started from required school assignments and turned into a hobby.]
A few years ago, I realized that creating models and dioramas was both relaxing for me and that it stretched my creativity in a new and different way. I've done this in lots of different forms, but here's my most recent project and then my first project.
Most recently, I learned how to use computer laser-cutting to create precisely designed (and cut) designs. This one I call the "The Breakers." The name obliquely refers to both the grand mansions of Newport, RI, and it also refers to the ambiguous relationship between the man who is standing outside the home (right of center) and the backlit woman in the home (left of center).

This interest in creating intriguing dioramas started a number of years ago. Back then, one history project was to create a multi-dimenisonal history lesson. I chose to do my on gladiators, and I created a diorama that annotated what was going on in a way that not only explained it, but which told a memorable story.
About four years later, the International Plastic Modeling Society had a conference and competition in Syracuse NY. I registered to enter my Coliseum diorama, and it ended up winning Second Place.
